Several global leaders have gathered in New Delhi for the 16th BRICS meeting, with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi also visiting India to participate in the discussions. During the BRICS National Security Advisors' meeting held on Tuesday, India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval met Wang Yi to discuss bilateral ties and regional issues.
During the meeting, Wang Yi emphasized that India and China should be seen as partners rather than rivals. According to him, the leaders of both countries have agreed to strengthen cooperation and view their relationship from a long-term and global perspective.
The Chinese Foreign Minister openly expressed Beijing's support for India's upcoming BRICS presidency. He stressed the importance of respecting each other's core interests and ensuring that differences, including the long-standing border dispute, remain under control.
Wang Yi and Ajit Doval, who serve as special representatives for their respective countries on border-related issues, reviewed the progress made in restoring and normalizing ties between the two Asian powers. Wang noted that relations between India and China have gradually returned to a positive track.
Describing both nations as major economies and leading voices of the Global South, Wang said India and China, being the world's two most populous countries, should deepen cooperation and contribute to global stability and development.
India is hosting the BRICS National Security Advisors' meeting on June 22-23 under the chairmanship of NSA Ajit Doval. According to official information and Chinese media reports, both sides held extensive discussions on bilateral relations and the ongoing efforts to further improve ties between the neighboring countries.
